Denny’s restaurants in the United States have started offering a special menu, drinks, and trading cards to celebrate the upcoming release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, but it doesn’t look like Japanese fans will be able to enjoy the same thing at Denny’s restaurants in Japan.

The Japanese release of Solo: A Star Wars Story will be one month later than the US release so it is possible that Denny’s Japan may announce a tie-up later in April or May. But it seems unlikely. Although Denny’s restaurants in Japan have the same name as Denny’s restaurants in the United States, the two restaurant chains are no longer owned or managed by the same company.

Denny’s in Japan is owned by Seven & I Holdings Co. (which also owns all the 7-11s in Japan). There is no longer any existing contracts or licenses between Denny’s in Japan and Denny’s in United States. With different management companies involved, sadly it seems highly unlikely that Denny’s Japan will get the same Han Solo promotion that Denny’s in the United States is getting!

Denny’s has been popular in Japan since it first arrived in 1974, and today there are several hundred Denny’s restaurants located across Japan. They use a old version of the Denny’s logo and have a completely different menu than Denny’s restaurants in the United States. Denny’s Japan offers a menu focused more on lunch and dinner, with a combination of both Western and Japanese food.

I’ll be keeping my eye out over the next few weeks to see if Denny’s Japan announces a Han Solo tie-up, but I’m not going to get my hopes up! I’ll be sure to let you know if there is any good news though!
